In 2005, Mike Smith set out to capitalize on his 40 years in the construction industry by opening his own construction management firm.
But within months of starting Alpine Management Group Inc. in Lone Tree, Smith discovered the green field of energy efficiency.
Friends told him about a box — called a Kvar Energy Controller — they put on their home’s electrical panel to cut electricity use and monthly utility bills.

Dayton Elementary School has served the community for more than 26 years and is one of Tippecanoe School Corporation's (TSC's) 17 schools that partnered with ENERGY STAR in 2007.
As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, the school has installed KVAR energy controllers and is supported by a "Green Team" consisting of student volunteers and a faculty advisor that is committed to good stewardship of our natural resources and an educational environment for students that models and teaches responsible waste reduction and recycling.
