KVAR EC & KVAR COLD Active Refrigerant System
The synergistic benefits of installing both the KVAR Energy Controller (KVAR EC) in conjunction with the Kvar Cold Active Refrigerant System provides multiplicative advantages resulting in an even greater reduction of energy consumption than either device installed on its own.
Through the use of both of these proactive advanced engineering technologies, the result is even greater efficiency in the performance of motors, less energy turned into heat and windage losses, and cooler running and longer-lasting motors that require less maintenance.
The impact of Kvar Cold active refrigerant agent on equipment performance is increased heat transfer capability (thermal conductivity), reduction in the boiling point of the base refrigerant, an increase in the overall efficiency of the heat exchange system, a reduction in compressor run time (by reaching its operating set point quicker), and reduction of electrical energy kWh consumption.
The patented and UL listed KVAR Energy Controller supplies reactive power to inductive electrical equipment, thereby reducing "kilo-Watt-per-hour" energy consumption to between 6% to 25%, with a return-on-investment period typically between less than one-year to 24-months.
Combining these two technologies concurrently has conclusively been shown to lead to significantly decreased equipment operation and maintenance costs, considerably lowered energy bills, reduced equipment maintenance expenses, minimized equipment down time, and the avoidance of expensive equipment replacement costs due to decreased operating life.
For example, for a 10-hp compressor motor installed in 1996, if still in operation with Freon 134 refrigerant and maintained in compliance with the typical OEM maintenance schedule, has lost approximately 34% of its efficiency by 2009. Installation of Kvar Cold intermetallic compound removes oil fouling, lacquer and plaque, and thus reconditions the cooling system by improving thermal heat transfer and operating efficiency, thereby resulting in restoration and optimal operation of cooling equipment. In combination with an KVAR EC installation, increases in overall energy efficiencies of 50% or greater could be achieved within the first few months.
KVAR COLD re-conditions, restores and maintains efficiency in air-conditioners, chillers & refrigeration systems, resulting in the reduction of kWh consumption.
KVAR COLD is an inter-metallic compound that forms a permanent bond to metal surfaces. This action removes oil fouling, changes the thermal nature of the metal and lowers the boiling point of the refrigerant gas, resulting in a more efficient operating system with substantial savings in energy costs.
KVAR COLD forms a protective molecular layer that will NOT change mechanical tolerances.
KVAR COLD contains no elements of the Halogen group, particularly Chlorine, Fluorine, nor Sulfur or Phosphorous. KVAR COLD does NOT contain PTFE (Teflon) or any other particulate.
KVAR COLD will NOT contaminate waste oil.

How does a Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive (PROA) work?
The KVAR COLD PROA technology is specifically designed for the strict requirements of AC&R lubrication due to the ability of a PROA to form a protective molecular layer, described below as a: * microscopic electrochemical layer, without the introduction of solid particles. The technology, especially developed for air-conditioning and refrigeration compressors, forms a boundary film on metal parts and provides lubrication while protecting parts from friction degradation. A PROA contains an activated polar molecule (highly electrically charged at one end). The charged molecule has a strong affinity for metal, and coats metal surfaces in the compressor with an essentially single-molecule thin layer. This layer not only increases the ability of oil to lubricate moving parts in the compressor, but also displaces the build-up of refrigerant oil in condenser and evaporator coils thus improving heat transfer of heat exchangers.

To understand how KVAR COLD extends the life span of mechanical equipment, consider the real life operation of a typical AC/R or HVAC unit. Over time, as compressor temperatures increase or as the load changes from steady to irregular, the lubricant film protecting the compressor becomes increasingly thin. Eventually there may be metal to metal contact that will result in abnormal wear and oil oxidation. To prevent this, KVAR COLD forms a protective layer that is retained on all metal surfaces and provides the separation between the metal parts. This action greatly reduces metal wear particles, oil oxidation and equipment operating temperatures.
To understand how KVAR COLD restores lost efficiency of the heat exchange system, consider the operation of a typical heat exchange system in an AC/R or HVAC unit. As a result of compressor piston/cylinder blow-by, refrigerants carry a small amount of compressor oil, which, over time, adheres to the inside of the tubing of the condenser and evaporator coils. The oil acts as an insulator decreasing the heat transfer capability of the evaporator and the condenser. When KVAR COLD is blended into the compressor oil of the unit, the KVAR COLD molecules, being polarized, will begin to share electrons with the tubing wall on the inside of the condenser and evaporator coils. This allows the KVAR COLD to displace the oil barrier on the inside of the coils.
How does oil build up affect the efficiency of an HVAC&R system?
The long term effect of refrigeration oil build-up is significant to the energy efficiency of an HVAC&R unit and is described by the ASHRAE 1998 Handbook in the following manner: * Oil fouling of the heat transfer surfaces of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, will cause a loss of about 7% efficiency the first year, and 2% per year the following years. *American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers -(ASHRAE) Handbook 1998 -Effects on Heat Transfer According to the ASHRAE Handbook this means that a typical system that is only two years old will have lost almost 10% of its energy efficiency. A typical five-year-old system will have lost 15%, and an eight-year-old system will have lost over 20% of its energy efficiency.
To understand how KVAR COLD saves energy and ultimately reduces the systems operating cost, consider that the polarized KVAR COLD molecules create a new film essentially one molecular in thickness on the inside of the coils. This restores the ability of the system to efficiently transfer the heat load. More efficient heat transfer results in lower head pressure and less work required by the compressor. More efficient heat transfer also results in colder evaporator coils, which allows for the set point to be reached quicker. This can allow the compressor to cycle off more often, thereby running less and saving more energy and reducing electrical operating costs.
